Based off official GOV.UK adviceEvery household should be ready to cope on its own for several days

The 72-hour household kit

The power will go out. Be ready before it does.

The Government's advice is blunt: every home should cope on its own for at least 72 hours. No power. No heating. No shops. ReadyHome packs that kit into one box, delivered to your door. Sort it once. Forget about it.

By the time the warning comes, the shelves are already empty.

Panic buying clears shops in hours. No tills. No card machines. No cash machines. When the power goes, the system that feeds your family goes with it.

The first 72 hours

What a blackout actually looks like

Scroll through the first three days. This is the window every household is told to be ready for.

  1. Hour 1

Lights, heating, Wi-Fi and chargers all die at once. The house goes dark and silent.

  2. Hour 6

Your phone - your map, your news, your lifeline - is draining fast.

  3. Hour 12

Supermarket shelves are empty. Card machines and cash machines stop working.

  4. Hour 24

No hot food. No hot water. The cold starts to bite - especially for children and the elderly.

  5. Hour 48

Emergency help goes to the most vulnerable first. Everyone else waits.

  6. Hour 72

The households still coping are the ones who prepared before it happened.

Illustrative scenario, not a prediction.

The official checklist

What the Government says every home should have

  • Battery or wind-up torch (safer than candles)
  • Battery or wind-up radio, for updates in a power cut
  • Portable power bank for your phone + spare batteries
  • First aid kit, hand sanitiser and wet wipes
  • Bottled water - 2.5-3 litres per person per day (WHO guidance)
  • Non-perishable food that doesn't need cooking, plus a tin opener

In a power cut, dial 105 to report it (England, Scotland and Wales). Write important phone numbers down on paper - your mobile may be dead.

READYHOME

While everyone else queues in the dark, you're already sorted.

Warm. Lit. Fed. In touch. Ready for whatever the next 72 hours brings.

Why ReadyHome

Built in the UK, packed to the official guidance

ReadyHome exists because the advice is good and almost nobody follows it. Sourcing twenty separate items, checking them against the official list and storing them properly takes a weekend most people don't have. So we did it once, properly, and put it in a box.

Every pack is assembled in the UK from UK-held stock, follows the household kit guidance at prepare.campaign.gov.uk, and ships with a printed plan your household fills in together: where you meet, who you call, what you take.

Delivered to your door. Job done.

After the warning, it's too late to prepare.

Half of UK households admit they are not ready. When the lights go out, the shops empty in hours and help goes to the most vulnerable first. The households that cope are the ones that prepared before they needed to.

Be the one who got things ready.

Questions

Everything else you're wondering

Which pack should I choose?

Essential covers one or two people with the full basic 72-hour system. Complete is the right call for most households - deeper power, water, food and warmth. Family adds an evacuation grab bag and child and baby supplies for the whole house.

How fast is delivery?

Delivery is free. We pack to order and deliver to your door - you'll get a delivery window by email as soon as your order is confirmed.

What comes with every pack?

Beyond the kit itself: the printed household plan, a preparedness checklist and an emergency contact card, ready to fill in and stick on the fridge. The plan walks your household through where you meet, who you call and what you take if you have to leave.

Couldn't I just buy all this myself?

You can - the official list is free at prepare.campaign.gov.uk. What you're buying is the weekend back: twenty-odd items sourced, checked against the guidance and packed properly, with one delivery and one returns window instead of six shops and a spreadsheet.

What if I never need it?

That's the best outcome, and the kit still earns its keep - the torch, power bank, radio and grab bag earn their place on any camping trip, festival or long drive. The rest sits in a cupboard until the day it's the most valuable thing in the house.

Is this a government scheme?

No. ReadyHome is a private company. We follow the public household kit guidance published at prepare.campaign.gov.uk so you don't have to source twenty items yourself.

Is my payment safe?

Checkout is handled end to end by Stripe over an encrypted connection. Your card details never touch our servers.

What if I change my mind?

Send the unopened pack back within 30 days for a full refund. Email hello@readyhomekit.com and we'll sort it.
